ATTITUDE OF BULGARIAN PATIENTS TO THE RISK FACTOR OF SMOKING

Tanyo Stefanov

Abstract

The article presents a study of the attitude of Bulgarian patients to the risk factor of smoking. The analysis of the results obtained on this issue raises serious concerns about the respondents' medical culture and health-preventive behavior. Only half of the respondents believe that smoking is categorically harmful.

The worrying result is that 27.77 ± 0.76% of the study participants have no opinion on the matter and cannot judge whether smoking really harms them. Even more worrying, however, is the fact that as many as 20.74% ± 0.18% of the patients surveyed stated that they thought smoking had absolutely no negative effect on their health.
