COMMON PREDATORY FLIES (DIPTERA, BRACHYCERA, DOLICHOPODIDAE ) IN WETLAND HABITATS IN BULGARIA

Abstract


Family Dolichopodidae belongs to superfamily Empidoidea, suborder Brachycera and order Diptera. The family Dolichopodidae, also called Long-legged flies is one of the most abundant families of order Diptera. There are about 7000 described species all over the world. Most of longlegged flies are predators and can be found on the aquatic vegetation around rivers, brooks, ponds and marshes. To the fauna of Bulgaria are known about 180 dolichopodid flies. This paper presents the most frequent dolichopodids in Bulgaria, their localities of collecting and general distribution.
