ANALYSIS OF SPECIAL EU PROGRAMS FOR SUPPORTING SME

Tatiana Colesnicova, Larisa Savga

Abstract

SMEs represent more than 99% of enterprises in the European Union and are the backbone of the EU-27 economy. This article analyzes trends in recent years, focusing mainly on three key variables: Value added expressed in both current and constant prices, employment and the number of firms. The detailed analysis in this paper is carried out on special EU programs to support small and medium-sized enterprises. The EU is putting in place policies to support SMEs, as they play an essential role for the transition to a sustainable and digital economy. As set out in the SME strategy of March 2020, the EU wants to support and empower SMEs of all sizes and in all sectors. The set of proposed measures aims both to provide short-term relief and to strengthen the long-term competitiveness and resilience of SMEs. The article examines support programs such as: Social Change&Innovation, COSME, Creative Europe, InnovFin (Horizon 2020), Private Finance for Energy Efficiency, Natural Capital Financing Facility.
