DEVELOPMENT OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Anatolii Kucher, Lesia Kucher

Abstract

Introduction. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that the transition to a circular economy is at an early stage even in the most developed countries of the world. Despite the fact that the Government of Ukraine is actively working to transform the national economy towards carbon-neutral development and the transition to a circular model, the country is not among the leaders in terms of the implementation of the circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources.

Purpose. The purpose of the paper is to highlight the results of a theoretical review of modern publications on the challenges and opportunities for the development of a circular economy in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methodology. To achieve this goal, the study used different methods: analysis and synthesis, bibliometric analysis, abstract-logical, monographic. As the main material for this study, we used data from the Scopus database regarding publications on the topic of the circular economy in the context of COVID-19.

Results. Based on a study of 25 documents on the circular economy in the context of COVID-19, indexed in Scopus, in such areas of analysis as the number of publications, leading countries and leading organizations in publication activity, type of documents, sphere of knowledge, activity of authors, the bibliometric field is characterized this problem. The publication activity of the authors and the most relevant articles are analyzed. Priority areas for studying the challenges and opportunities for the development of the circular economy in the context of COVID-19 have been identified.

Originality. For the first time, an attempt was made to carry out a systematic theoretical analysis of world publications on the circular economy in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which made it possible to determine the current state of scientific support for this problem and determine the priority research areas for the future.

Practical value. The practical value lies in the fact that the obtained results can be used to make political decisions to improve the system of scientific support for the development of a circular economy in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic at the international, national and regional levels.
